  1. Before starting the WinMX 3.53 installation create folders on your hard drive for your incoming downloads and your outgoing shared files.
    Begin by right-clicking on your Start Menu button and clicking Explore to open Windows Explorer.
  2. For this example we shall create a folder called Incoming for files you are downloading and a folder called Outgoing for files you are going to share with others.
    To begin click on Local Disk (C:) in the left pane.
  3. Next right-click in the right pane and select New and then Folder
  4. Name the folder Incoming then press Enter.
  5. Repeat for the Outgoing folder by right-clicking in the right pane and selecting New and then Folder
  6. Name the folder Outgoing then press Enter.
  7. Now that you have created folders for incoming downloads and outgoing shared files, double click on the WinMX icon to begin the WinMX installation process.
  8. Click Next to continue.
  9. Read licence agreement and click Yes, I accept this agreement to accept and move on.
  10. Install in the default location or choose another if you wish. The default location is recommended for most users. Click Next
  11. Accept agreement again by clicking ACCEPT AGREEMENT
  12. Start part two of installation: Settings. Click Next
  13. Choose the nickname you want to use on the network (It is not recommended to use your real name or your e-mail address). Click Next
  14. Choose your region. Click Next
  15. Choose a folder for your incoming files. It’s recommended that you use the incoming folder that you created earlier. Click Browse to select your incoming files folder.
  16. Browse to your incoming files folder. Highlight it by clicking on it and then click OK
  17. After choosing a folder for incoming files click Next
  18. Choose which file types you want to share. You may add other file types in addition if thay are not listed as default ones. For example, some other file types you might want to share are wma, bmp, and txt. Click Next
  19. Choose which folders you want to share. It’s not recommended that you share the folder for incoming files. Highlight it and then click Unshare Selected Folder to remove it. Then click Share New Folder
  20. Browse to the folder you want to share, click OK
  21. Before you move on verify that the folder for incoming files is not in the shared folders list. You may share additional folders by clicking Share New Folder or remove already added folders by marking them in the list and clicking Unshare Selected Folder. Click Next when finished.
  22. Chose your connection speed. Click Next

  23. An automatic test will run to determine if internet is available and if you can be connected directly to the WinMX network.
  24. A significant amount of users connect to internet via cable or dsl modem with a built-in or seperate router. This means you will have to configure the router before you can successfully set any TCP and UDP ports for WinMX to use. It is recommended that you use what WinMX suggests and do the additional configuration after this installation is successfully finished. Click Next
  25. Chose black or white color scheme. You may change this later or adjust the colors if you are not satisfied with the default scheme. Click Next
  26. You are done! Click Next.
  27. WinMX will now start automatically. If you installed MXPie Patch before you started this installation you should connect to the network in a few seconds. If you experience problems connecting, please visit the Troubleshooting section of this website.
